Family and Friends,
Hello everyone! How’s it going? This week was great. I think every week is great because it’s all about missionary work! So updates on the week:
Flora is getting BAPTIZED!! August 17th! We got a text from her the other week saying that her mom is against it. We were so sad, but she seemed confident that her mom would come around! We prayed so hard. When we met with her last Monday and asked what was up, she told us that her mom said that when she knows English better she can get baptized (first miracle–heart softened!). Flora then said, “I’m practicing sooo hard!” We asked her when she would be ready, and she said the 17th! MIRACLE! When we taught her about tithing, she asked, “Can I pay before I am baptized!?” She’s adorable! AH! I love her!
We had some good lessons with Ben this week. He’s coming along and learning how to recognize the Spirit. He is soooo close! We can feel it. DeVon still has August 24th as his baptismal date, so we’re excited for that too! One of the highlights of the week was going to THE TEMPLE! On Wednesday morning we drove up to Yukon. It was gorgeous! The OKC temple is tiny, but the Spirit there is just as strong. It is interesting that on Tuesday night, everybody in our Zone was struggling. We prayed for each other and realized that we were going to the temple the next day, and that Satan would do anything to get us to feel discouraged. Praying helped so much and we all felt so much peace in the temple! It was amazing. The picture included in this e-mail shows that President Walkenhorst is about as tall as the temple! 😉
This past weekend we had exchanges. Sister Pfister came to Norman with us and Sister Main went up to OKC South. We had an incredible weekend and I learned so much from her! Sunday night we had dinner with the Sturges family. They just moved here from Boise (Melba). Brother Sturges is the new Institute Director. Their family is AWESOME! Brother Sturges knows my seminary teachers (Brother Tanner and Gagnon!) Small world! Another miracle from the week: we went to visit some members that we felt impressed to go see. We knocked on their door, but someone we didn’t know answered. Apparently, the members had just moved and these guys had moved in only two hours before we arrived. We talked to one of the guys, named Aaron, who said he had been praying for people to come talk to him about God! So crazy! We are going back to see him this week!
A common topic that came up this week was Heavenly Father and our relationship with Him. Many of our investigators just lack the belief in God. It’s so simple yet deep that God is our loving Heavenly Father and we are His children. The talk, “The Grandeur of God” by Jeffrey R. Holland, talks about how one of Christ’s roles on this earth was to help us come to know our Heavenly Father. I think it is amazing that so many people believe that they are the same person. The more I read the Bible, the more I see how Christ did show us the way to talk to our Father and how to return to Him. The amazing part is that it’s only through Christ that we can return to live with our Father. The Atonement is real and we must use it. We must always be working on strengthening that relationship. I was able to bear my testimony this week in sacrament meeting about how much God loves us. I can feel it and it helps strengthen me when times are hard.
Coolest quote of the week: “As you act on your desire to believe, God will strengthen your belief in Him until it becomes sure knowledge.”
I love Oklahoma. I love the people. I can’t even describe it. I am constantly thinking of our investigators and what we can do to help them feel the spirit and remember their heavenly home. I want the best for them so bad! I have to come to rely on the Spirit and trust in the Lord and not on the arm of the flesh so much during these past two transfers. It has brought me so much JOY!
I love y’all! Have a great week and trust in the LORD!
